Transgender Day of Remembrance Hawaiʻi
November 20, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
In Hawai’i, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor not only those of our community lost to violence but all people of trans experience that we have lost locally in the past year. Please join us as we come together for a night of remembrance, refreshments, and fellowship. RSVP not required, but greatly appreciated.
If you know of any members of our Hawai’i transgender community that we have lost in the past year, please email kuaana@hhhrc.org.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance held on the 20th of November around the world.
