Dementia: A Geriatrician’s Perspective

Dr. Jessica Barry, Staff Geriatrician with Queen’s Geriatrics Services will share essential information about dementia. In this session Dr. Jessica Barry will cover:
• Why it’s important to get an accurate diagnosis of dementia?
• What the difference is between dementia and normal aging?
• Types or causes of dementia
• Treatments of dementia, including medications and non-pharmacologic
• The priority of safety issues with dementia (wandering, driving, etc.)
• The “team approach” to dementia care
• The future of dementia care
