Wāhine in Film Talk-Story @HiSAM

March 17, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hawai’i Women in Filmmaking is resuming the Wāhine in Film Talk-Story Series, and for the inaugural event, they are screening the Reel Wāhine of Hawaiʻi Season 3 followed by Q&A with the filmmakers. This event is in collaboration with the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum.

Hawai‘i Women in Filmmaking has produced three seasons of Reel Wāhine of Hawaiʻi, redressing the conversation behind gender inequality in the film industry and recontextualizing Hawaiian and local stories through the female perspective and gaze. Through documenting the lives of women filmmakers in Hawai‘i, various untold stories are revealed about the lives of filmmakers striving to make their art, and have their voices heard.

The third season of this series spotlights: Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Joy Chong-Stannard, Joan Lander, Kimberlee Bassford, Meleanna Aluli Meyer, and Zoë Eisenberg.
