The Return of Kapaemahu shares the long-hidden story of the Healer Stones of Kapaemahu—a sacred site of healing and inclusion in Waikīkī. Composed and directed by Kumu Patrick Makuakāne, the show honors gender and sexual diversity and incorporates Kumu Patrick’s unique hula mua style paired with modern music. The show is held on Kuhio Beach hula mound, just steps from the stones, Every Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 PM.
The legendary story of the healer stones of Kapaemahu – Hawaiʻi’s unique monument to healing and inclusion – can now be experienced as a live hula performance steps from the site of the sacred stones on Waikīkī Beach where the four māhū healers once lived and performed their miraculous cures. Composed and directed by Kumu Hula Patrick Makuakāne, The Return of Kapaemahu is a production of Lei Pua ʻAla Queer Histories of Hawaiʻi. The show is takes place on Kūhiō Beach hula mound, under the big banyan tree on Kalakaua Avenue, every Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 PM.
