The Glade Show Club Historic Plaque Unveiling

June 28 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Join the community on Friday, June 28 at 9am when Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, in collaboration with the Lei Pua ‘Ala Queer Histories of Hawaiʻi project, will unveil a new historical plaque honoring the Glade. A Chinatown nightclub famous for its “Boys Will Be Girls” revue, the Glade was also a place of safety and refuge for Hawaiʻi’s diverse LGBTQ+ Māhū communities. Meet legendary performer Brandy Lee and other Glade luminaries and celebrate at the first stop on the Hawaiʻi Queer History Trail.

The unveiling will take place at the entrance to the Maunakea Marketplace (where the Glade used to be located). To learn more, watch this KITV news story and visit the Lei Pua ʻAla website.
