Kūpuna Movie Morning: Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
January 14 @ 11:30 am - 9:00 pm
Kūpuna Movie Mornings is a series of monthly social gatherings with snacks and beverages, and a classic film on the big screen, presented by the Hawaiʻi Theatre Center and the Hawaiʻi LGBT Legacy Foundation. The events are pay what you can and a fun way to catch a great film and spend time with LGBTQ+ kūpuna and a diverse community of movie lovers.
Januaryʻs film is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Robert Aldrich’s 1962 camp classic starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, two actresses who had been bitter rivals for three decades, cast as sisters in an over-the-top psychological horror film. Warner Brothers mogul Jack Warner famously remarked “I wouldn’t give a plugged nickel for either of those two old broads,” but audiences felt differently, and the movie was a huge hit, and one of the top grossing films of 1962.
