Queer Culture Night at HoMA: Fashioning Aloha Exhibit and Art Talk

April 19 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Who doesn’t love Aloha attire? Ready to dress up and  learn the history? Join Hawaii’s Queer Hiking & Activities Group (LGBTQIA+) – Oahu for a queer culture night filled with fun and fabulousness.
See HoMAʻs new iconic Fashioning Aloha exhibit, spanning almost 90 years, Fashioning Aloha showcases the diversity and inspiration of design motifs in aloha wear—holokū (gowns), mu‘umu‘u, holomu‘u (dresses), and aloha shirts.

Then join “In Conversation: Contemporary Designers on Fashioning Aloha” with Tory Laitila, curator of textiles and historic arts of Hawai‘i, moderating a talk story session with aloha wear fashion designers Nakeʻu Awai, Roberta Oaks and Kenneth Aloha Victor of Kauluaʻe, whose work is featured in the exhibition.

Itʻs gonna be so much fun, especially when everyone wears their best aloha attire.
People are welcome to go to the museum as early as you want, but we will meet at 6:15pm, and get into the 7pm talk.
Tickets to the talk are free, but will sell out, so get yours ASAP.
