Pride Tree Proclamation and Flag Raising Ceremony

October 1 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Mayor Rick Blangiardi will kick-off Honolulu Pride Month with a ceremonial flag raising and reading of a proclamation in recognition of the Wilhelmina Tenney Rainbow Shower Tree, Cassia x nealiae. The treeʻs name honors two early 20th century lesbians in Hawaiʻi, and henceforth it will be the official Pride Tree of Honolulu. Hosted by Hawaiʻi LGBT Legacy Foundation and Lei Pua ‘Ala Queer Histories of Hawaiʻi, the ceremony will be followed by light refreshments on the lawn and viewing of the new Rainbow Shower Tree plaque. The public is welcome.
