Defending Trans Youth and Students’ Right to Learn

April 12, 2022 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am

Anti-trans bills targeting young people from Texas to Idaho. Classroom censorship on students’ right to learn about race, gender, and sexual orientation. Book bans against largely Black and LGBTQ+ authors across the states.

In this 30-minute event, ACLUʻs legal experts on transgender justice and free speech will take you through the full scope of these nationwide crises – providing direct insight into how their lawyers and advocacy teams are fighting back and sharing the first-hand accounts of those who are directly harmed by the intensifying, fear-based attacks across the states.

The speakers will include:

  • Rebecca Lowell Edwards, ACLU Chief Communications Officer
  • Chase Strangio, ACLU Deputy Director for Transgender Justice
  • Emerson Sykes, Senior Staff Attorney, ACLU Speech Privacy & Technology Project

You’ll also hear about what you can do to help, and you can join in the discussion with your fellow community members by using the event’s live chat feature throughout.
