Hawaiʻi Storytellers: Kūpuna

October 17, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This storytelling eventwill honor a diverse group of notable kūpuna from the island of Oʻahu, who will be taking the stage to share their wisdom and memories, so that we can apply the lessons learned to present day.

Featured Storytellers:

Cynthia Thielen – Attorney for the Protect Kaho’olawe ‘Ohana during the activist years; represented the Windward District in the House of Representatives 1990-2020; and currently serving on the State Ethics Commission.

Brandy Lee – Iconic showgirl and show producer of The Glade nightclub that reopened in 1963 in Honolulu’s Chinatown after a 5-year ban on drag shows in Hawaii.

Neal Milner – Author, and longtime Hawaii political analyst and columnist at Honolulu Civil Beat.

Amy Agbayani– Civil rights advocate and Filipino community leader.

Naka Nathaniel (Host) – Editor-at-Large at Honolulu Civil Beat.

The event will will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Dillingham Hall in Punahou School. The event will be hosted by Civil Beat Editor-at-Large, Naka Nathaniel.
