Through July 31: Hanohano Kūhiō Events & Activities
July 31, 2021
Celebrate Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole and the 100th Anniversary of a key part of his legacy, the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921. A prince of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi until it was overthrown by a coalition of American and European businessmen in 1893, Kūhiō later went on to become a representative in the Territory of Hawaii as delegate to the United States Congress. Kūhiō was often called Ke Ali‘i Maka‘āinana (Prince of the People) and is well known for fighting “tirelessly to strengthen his beloved people and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture,” says U.S. Rep. Kai Kahele. Hanohano Kuhio events continue through July 31. To learn more, click here.
