SUMMARY:Nominations deadline: The Business of Pride 2023
DESCRIPTION:The nomination deadline for the 2023 Business of Pride Awards is July 23\, 2023. Click here to make your nominations. Pacific Business News is looking for LGBTQ leaders\, companies\, and allies in Hawaii who are successful in their careers\, active in their communities\, and advocates for inclusion and equality. \nTo ensure your nomination is as competitive as possible\, please review the following tips: \n1. Ensure that all areas of the nomination are filled out\, and each question is answered.  The judges can only work off of information provided in the nomination packet and/or letters of support- so if something isn’t listed\, it can’t be considered. \n2. For ease\, feel free to use bullet points\, numbers\, etc. instead of full paragraphs. \n3. The best and most successful nominations include facts and figures\, not opinions.  For example\, let us know how a person or company increased revenue that year and provide numbers\, vs. letting us know that they are “great to work with”. \n4. Letters of support are certainly not required\, but can be very helpful to our panel of judges. \n5. Make sure the nomination is submitted on time. \nPlease contact Rose Balagtas at rbalagtas@bizjournals.com or (808)955-8072 with any questions.

SUMMARY:NQAPIA Family Is Still Family
DESCRIPTION:May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and it’s a great time to revisit the beautiful “Family Is Still Family” multilingual videos produced by the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA). \nAccording to NQAPIA: “In the Asian\, South Asian\, Southeast Asian\, and Pacific Islander (API) community\, coming out to family can be difficult. Lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, or queer (LGBTQ) children feel being open about sexual orientation will shame or dishonor their family\, but staying in the closet takes a greater toll\, causing isolation\, depression\, and even suicide. \n“NQAPIA’s ‘Family is Still Family’ is an international\, multifaceted campaign to promote the acceptance of LGBTQ people in API families and to diversify the faces and languages of those who support the LGBTQ community. The campaign offers a powerful message: offer your LGBTQ child a lifeline\, support their coming out\, and keep the family strong and unified.” \nLearn more and watch the videos here.

SUMMARY:Virtual HANOCON 2021: Shifting Paradigms
DESCRIPTION:HANOCON is Hawaii’s largest annual gathering of nonprofit professionals–as well as sector allies\, supporters\, and advocates–to network\, learn\, share ideas\, collaborate\, and partner. This year’s HANOCON conference theme is Shifting Paradigms\, inspired by the Native Hawaiian concept of makawalu\, a way of seeing and understanding more than just what is before us. It is the vision and contemplation that allows us to see beyond now and prepare us for what is to come\, to see the change that must take place before movement happens. Join the Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations to embrace makawalu as we begin to shift paradigms in the nonprofit sector to honor\, uplift and restore indigenous ways of thinking\, knowing and being in Hawaiʻi. \nLearn more and register here.
