SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Remembrance Maui
DESCRIPTION:Join Mental Health America of Hawaii (MHAH) and the The Maui Equality Coalition in observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20\, 2023 at Kamaole I Beach Park at 5:00 pm. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a nationwide event first started by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester\, a transgender woman who was brutally murdered in 1998. The Maui event will commemorate all those transgender individuals who suffered violent\, senseless deaths in 2023. \nDuring the event there will be a reading of the list of those we have lost nationwide this year. The event will end at sunset with a flower ceremony at the shore break.   The LGBTQ+ Community\, Allies\, and the general public to participate.  Feel free to bring loose flowers for the ending ceremony. \nFor more information\, contact Danielle Bergen.

DESCRIPTION:In this FREE training\, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division Safe Spaces Committee members\, Kimberly Allen and Robin Lee will discuss insight into understanding the LGBTQ+ community\, especially the transgender athlete. Learn how barring their participation from team sports harms their mental wellness\, and ability to connect with their peers. DESCRIPTION:Join the Hawaiʻi Afterschool Alliance’s presentation about how to best support our LGBTQ+ youth with Amanda Martinez from Mental Health America of Hawaiʻi and Asia Helfrich from Connections Public Charter School. \nThis presentation will focus on explaining Sexual and Gender Minorities (SGM) terminology and the differences between gender identity and sexual orientation.
