SUMMARY:Pride Tree Proclamation and Flag Raising Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Mayor Rick Blangiardi will kick-off Honolulu Pride Month with a ceremonial flag raising and reading of a proclamation in recognition of the Wilhelmina Tenney Rainbow Shower Tree\, Cassia x nealiae. The treeʻs name honors two early 20th century lesbians in Hawaiʻi\, and henceforth it will be the official Pride Tree of Honolulu. Hosted by Hawaiʻi LGBT Legacy Foundation and Lei Pua ‘Ala Queer Histories of Hawaiʻi\, the ceremony will be followed by light refreshments on the lawn and viewing of the new Rainbow Shower Tree plaque. The public is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Join the community on Friday\, June 28 at 9am when Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi\, in collaboration with the Lei Pua ‘Ala Queer Histories of Hawaiʻi project\, will unveil a new historical plaque honoring the Glade. A Chinatown nightclub famous for its “Boys Will Be Girls” revue\, the Glade was also a place of safety and refuge for Hawaiʻi’s diverse LGBTQ+ Māhū communities. Meet legendary performer Brandy Lee and other Glade luminaries and celebrate at the first stop on the Hawaiʻi Queer History Trail. \nThe unveiling will take place at the entrance to the Maunakea Marketplace (where the Glade used to be located).
