SUMMARY:An Evening with Sasha Issenberg
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hawai’i LGBT Legacy Foundation for our first in-person event of 2022: a very special evening of selected readings\, talk story and pau hana cocktails with Sasha Issenberg\, best-selling author of “The Engagement”. Register for this free event here. \nSasha Issenberg has written what is arguably the best and most complete story of the fight for marriage equality (which began right here in Hawai’i in 1990 when local activists set in motion a civil rights struggle that would change the world). \nHis richly detailed narrative follows the coast-to-coast conflict through courtrooms and war rooms\, bedrooms and boardrooms\, to shed light on every aspect of a political and legal controversy that divided Americans like no other. Pete Buttigieg says the book “…will inform the efforts of anyone who strives for a more equal country\, and touch the heart of anyone who has seen their rights come up for debate.” O: The Oprah Magazine called it among the very “Best LGBTQ Books of 2021.” \nJoin us at the beautiful Kaimana Beach Hotel and spend an intimate evening with Sasha\, one of the most articulate and knowledgable chroniclers of the LGBTQIA+ communityʻs fight to win marriage equality\, and whose work for The Boston Globe\, Businessweek and the New York Times Magazine\, sets a new standard for compelling reporting and analysis of the the most important issues of the day. \nVisit daShop to purchase your copy of “The Engagement”.

SUMMARY:October 1 - 31: Honolulu Pride Month
DESCRIPTION:After much deliberation the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation has come to the difficult decision that this year’s Honolulu Pride Parade & Festival will not be an in-person event. In its place will be a Virtual Honolulu Pride with all the fun\, educational and inspiring programs from last year\, plus a few new surprises. \n\n2021 Virtual Honolulu Pride will include the KHON2 special program Aloha With Pride (premiering October 14) \, the Tiny Floats Parade (with prizes!)\, a series of Rainbow Town Halls\, the wildly popular Virtual After Party\, a new Coming Out Day online project\, and more. And the Rainbows Over Waikiki Pride Banners will once again be installed thanks to presenting sponsor Hawaiian Airlines. The Foundation is also working to produce several small-scale\, more intimate cultural events during Honolulu Pride Month\, and hopes to plan a Pride Picnic community gathering at a later date. \nStay tuned for more details and please join us for this year’s Virtual Honolulu Pride. Keep the LGBTQ+ aloha growing and flowing–virtual\, at a distance–but\, more than ever\, diverse\, all-inclusive and very real. Mahalo nui! \nWe can’t do it without you\, so please consider making your contribution to help us make 2021 Honolulu Pride the best ever. Mahalo!
