SUMMARY:June 13-15: Hawaiʻi Contemporary Art Summit 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hawai‘i Contemporary Art Summit 2024 is a multi-day\, multi-site event on O‘ahu that brings together prominent artists\, curators\, and thinkers from Hawai‘i\, the Pacific\, and around the world. A thematic precursor to the Hawai‘i Triennial 2025 (HT25)\, Art Summit 2024 will consider the HT25 theme\, ALOHA NŌ\, through a series of insightful talks\, film screenings\, artist spotlights\, and artist-led workshops. \nKanaka ‘Ōiwi philosopher Dr. Manulani Aluli Meyer will offer a keynote on Hawai‘i’s role in a worldwide awakening; HT25 artists visiting from Aotearoa and Taiwan will present insights on their respective art practices; curators will guide special tours of current art exhibitions; and much more. DESCRIPTION:Join Hawaiʻi Contemporary as photographer and Hawai‘i Triennial 2022 (HT22) artist Ed Greevy talks about his work with journalist Noe Tanigawa. They’ll discuss his collaborations with the late Haunani-Kay Trask\, who was a prominent voice in environmental and social justice movements in Hawai‘i. Greevy and Trask worked together for decades\, documenting and shaping a narrative of resistance that was published in the book Kū‘ē: Thirty Years of Land Struggles in Hawai‘i in 2004—selections from which appear in HT22 and are on view at Hawai‘i State Art Museum\, now through Dec. 3\, 2022. \nFor more information\, click here.
