Hawaiʿi Health and Harm Reduction Center is excited to announce the premiere of its new documentary #EndOverdose HI: Harm Reduction in the Pacific. This documentary examines the innovative therapeutic model used by HHHRC known as harm reduction and explores the history and future of overdose prevention in Hawaiʿi.

Ms. Brook Lee is the host for this exploration as she takes us on a journey through the history of overdose prevention and the community leaders who fought to ensure that the residents of Hawaiʿi have access to the lifesaving drug Naloxone, or Narcan as it is commonly known. Emphasizing the benefits of the harm reduction models used by HHHRC, the documentary explores outside the lines to open a broader discussion on why Naloxone is needed as a precautionary step for anyone who is currently taking prescription or street opioids.

With over 67,000 opioid overdose deaths in the United States last year, community leaders like Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Josh Green and HHHRC Executive Director, Heather Lusk are joined by Gary Yabuta, the Executive Director for Hawaiʿi High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, to discuss the landscape of opioid overdoses and what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones from an overdose. Edward Mersereau, the Administrator for Hawaiʿi Department of Health’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, and Katia Worley, the State Opioid Coordinator for Hawaiʿi State Department of Health Hawaiʿi Opioid Initiative, join Community Health Outreach Specialist, Paij Nakamura, to demonstrate the successes of Hawaii’s harm reduction therapies and what the future holds for eliminating opioid overdoses.
