April 7 – 21: Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan Community Meetings
April 21, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
For the first time ever, the Department of Land and Natural Resources’s State Parks Division will be focusing on how to better manage cultural and recreational interests as a part of the division’s regular, five-year reevaluation and updating of its Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.
According to Sierra Club of Hawaii, “As tourism continues to grow, our parks, trails and other public spaces are once again filling up with more visitors and likely less locals…[and]…there needs to be a better balance among recreational use, traditional practices and natural resource protection, and a stronger respect of park rules.”
What changes do you want to see in our State Parks? What ideas do you have for stronger management of our public spaces? Now’s your chance to ask questions and provide your input.
The first meeting is Wednesday, April 7 from 6-7:30pm and the next is Saturday, April 10 from 9-10:30am. The division will also be hosting island specific meetings over the next few weeks:
