Anthony Patrick Manieri: Arrested Movement | online exhibition

July 15, 2021

The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Advocate & Gochis Galleries are excited to announce a new online exhibition, Arrested Movement, featuring the photography of Anthony Patrick Manieri.  Arrested Movement is an inclusive portrait series and awareness initiative celebrating and promoting positive body image for men.

What started out for professional photographer Manieri as a single photo session consisting of 10–12 men to be showcased in a gallery exhibit quickly and organically morphed into a movement through social media. This is now allowing Manieri to meet and photograph men in different cities around the world. He listens to their stories and personal struggles and works with them to develop a healthy, loving relationship with their bodies. This inclusive series focuses on men of all races, from thin to large, Little People to super tall, men with physical disabilities, transgender men, and two-spirit men. All are welcome. All are beautiful. All matter.

Manieri, a professional photographer and art director based in Toronto, Canada, says his meditation and mindfulness practice drew him to the idea of body positivity. “Our bodies can hear us, so we need to be kind to ourselves,” he says. Looking for moments where the subject’s soul comes through, then stopping time when his authentic self meets the photographer’s eye and the shutter of his camera, Manieri captures a celebratory moment of self-love, self-empowerment and self-acceptance.

Manieri’s work has appeared in print and online, including Martha Stewart WeddingsMaclean’s MagazineVogue ItaliaOUT MagazineInstinct MagazineThe Globe and MailHello! MagazineWeddingbellsBRIDES, and Dauphine Magazine.
