SUMMARY:Gubernatorial Candidate Forum
DESCRIPTION:Studies have shown that LGBTQ people\, especially LGBTQ people of color\, are overrepresented in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. According to the Movement Advancement Project\, “LGBTQ people are frequently targeted by and vulnerable to increased criminalization and abuse by law enforcement. They regularly experience assault and violence in correctional settings. And they face extraordinary challenges to rebuilding their lives upon release from the system\, both because of their criminal record and because they are LGBTQ.” \nWatch this Hawaiʻi Gubernatorial Candidate Forum to learn more about where candidates for our next governor stand on criminal legal reform issues before the August 13th Primary Election. \nThe event will be live-streamed online on Facebook (ACLU of Hawaiʻi\, ‘Ōlelo Community Media\, ʻEkolu Mea Nui and Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution) and YouTube (ACLU of Hawaiʻi and ʻŌlelo Community Media). The LIVE broadcast will also air on 7/17 at 3:00 PM on OLELO49. Rebroadcast is scheduled for 7/29 at 8:30 PM\, 7/30 at 8:30 AM\, 7/31 at 10 PM\, and 8/1 at 12 PM on OLELO49. \nThis forum is hosted by ʻEkolu Mea Nui and ACLU Hawaiʻi.
