SUMMARY:International Transgender Day of Visibility
DESCRIPTION:International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide\, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. The day was founded by US-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall of Michigan in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT recognition of transgender people\, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered day was the Transgender Day of Remembrance\, which mourned the murders of transgender people\, but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community. \nVisit these organizationsʻ websites to learn more: \nHawaii Sexual and Gender Minorities Resource Hub \nHHHRC Kua’ana Project \nThe Lavender Clinic \nMalama I Ke Ola Health Center \nTrans Student Educational Resources \nGLSEN Transgender Day of Visibility \nNational Center for Transgender Equality \nTransgender Law Center \nTrans Lifeline \nIf your organization has a program or event planned for International Transgender Day of Visibility\, and youʻd like us to promote it or partner with you\, please contact us here at the Hawai’i LGBT Legacy Foundation at info@hawaiilgbtlegacy.com \nClick here to view a complete list of LGBTQ Awareness Days from LGBTQnation.com \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Sasha Issenberg
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hawai’i LGBT Legacy Foundation for our first in-person event of 2022: a very special evening of selected readings\, talk story and pau hana cocktails with Sasha Issenberg\, best-selling author of “The Engagement”. Register for this free event here. \nSasha Issenberg has written what is arguably the best and most complete story of the fight for marriage equality (which began right here in Hawai’i in 1990 when local activists set in motion a civil rights struggle that would change the world). \nHis richly detailed narrative follows the coast-to-coast conflict through courtrooms and war rooms\, bedrooms and boardrooms\, to shed light on every aspect of a political and legal controversy that divided Americans like no other. Pete Buttigieg says the book “…will inform the efforts of anyone who strives for a more equal country\, and touch the heart of anyone who has seen their rights come up for debate.” O: The Oprah Magazine called it among the very “Best LGBTQ Books of 2021.” \nJoin us at the beautiful Kaimana Beach Hotel and spend an intimate evening with Sasha\, one of the most articulate and knowledgable chroniclers of the LGBTQIA+ communityʻs fight to win marriage equality\, and whose work for The Boston Globe\, Businessweek and the New York Times Magazine\, sets a new standard for compelling reporting and analysis of the the most important issues of the day. \nVisit daShop to purchase your copy of “The Engagement”.
