SUMMARY:June 3 & 4: Auditions for "Lovely Lee"

Prefer actor who has experience with drag.\n• Ned: Queer male. Hawaiian (20ʻs)  – This actor may be double cast\n• Crystal- Female identifying\, may be double cast as hula dancer\n• Jermaine: Queer\, non-binary\, Androgynous (20’s) – Very centered\n• Sargent: Cisgender male (Early 30’s) – Brash and attractive. \nScript Synopsis: Hawai`i in the 1970s was a time of reclamation\, discovery and pride. For Lovey Lee\, a young queer Hawaiian\, the 70s is about finding a place where they can just be. Even with Hawai`i’s cultural renaissance at its peak and the sexual liberation movement booming throughout the nation\, the journey of any brave pioneer is often complicated and fraught with challenges. In this coming of age story\, Lovey finds themself journeying from their island home and back again in their search for place. \nNote from the Director: This show is based on the real- life story of an amazing human. It is also a beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking queer story.  I am looking for non-binary and queer representation on stage to share this journey.  Please note that we have invited the cast who premiered this show on zoom in 2021 to reprise their roles\, so the list below does not reflect the whole cast.  Some roles may be double cast. \n You can read the script by clicking here \nCall the Kumu Kahua Theatre office 536-4222 or email officemanager@kumukahua.org  if you need more information.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth Block Party
DESCRIPTION:Join For The Culture Hawaii at the Juneteenth Block Party: a day filled with music\, food\, and fun. Celebrate freedom and unity with live performances\, delicious eats from local vendors\, and activities for all ages including a Keiki Zone with bounce houses for the kids. Come together to celebrate and honor Juneteenth; a truly important day in American history. \n”Juneteenth celebrates June 19\, 1865—the day when enslaved people in Texas received word that US Civil War had ended and they were free. It was the first time in almost 250 years that there was no legal slavery in North America. We’re observing Juneteenth in Hawai‘i to honor the hope our ancestors experienced in that moment as they reconnected to their kin and dreamed of generations to come. We carry their memories forward knowing we are not yet totally free\, but also knowing that\, through the practice of embodying freedom in our joy in being together\, sharing our cultures\, and envisioning a better world\, we bring it forth.” — The Pōpolo Project \n  \n
