SUMMARY:Kaʻiwa Ridge (Lanikai Pillbox) Sunset Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join the Oʻahu Queer Hiking group on one of their favorite evening hikes to end your weekend on a beautiful note. This is considered a challenging route because of the steep initial climb (and the parking). Due to the drier topography\, this hike can get quite sunny and warm during the late afternoon. \nPlease bring hiking/comfortable shoes\, at least 2 liters of water\, optional flashlight\, sun protection/hat\, a towel and snacks. Remember that you want to be present\, enjoy the hikes and meet other people\, so ideally be sober and no recreational drugs in your system. \nDogs are welcome\, but must be on a leash. \nOʻahu Queer Hiking advises that “parking is hilariously terrible” and encourages hikers to join a carpool. Click here. \nFor more details\, click here or here. \nAny questions\, please contact Glenn at 808-221-7261 or email at oahuqueerhiking@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:HIFF: Green Night
DESCRIPTION:The Hawaiʻi International Film Festivalʻs 2024 Spring Showcase is featuring GREEN NIGHT on March 24-25.  This thrilling feminist noir\, shot in both Korean and Mandarin\, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival\, and stars Fan Bingbing and Lee Joo-Young (BROKER\, ITAEWON CLASS). \nAfter a chance encounter\, two women find themselves in the underbelly of Seoul in this tale of survival. Chinese immigrant Xia (Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing) works as airport security staff in South Korea. When she catches a spunky\, green-haired drug smuggler on the job\, Xia is unexpectedly beguiled by the wayward girl. \nSeeking freedom from the abusive men in their lives\, the duo embark on an arduous night in Seoul’s drug underworld. But when blood spills\, the women go on the run\, with only each other to rely on. From their shared predicament blooms a deep tenderness and solidarity\, bound by the desire to escape oppression. GREEN NIGHT adapts film noir’s gritty masculinity to portray a female bond that is gentle yet unflinching in the will to survive. \nLearn more and purchase tickets here.

SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Visibility
DESCRIPTION:Join Hawaiʻi Health & Harm Reduction (HHHRC) at the State Capitol for Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) sign-waving and rally. This day is not just about being seen; it is about celebrating the diverse experiences and contributions of transgender individuals in our society. \nCome together and raise awareness as we proudly display messages of support and acceptance. Whether you are a seasoned advocate or new to activism\, your presence makes a difference. Let us show the world that we stand in solidarity with the transgender community. \n— \nTDOV is an international day dedicated to celebrating transgender individuals and raising awareness about the challenges they face. It is a day to honor their resilience\, strength\, and courage in living authentically. By coming together\, we can amplify their voices and advocate for a more inclusive and equitable society. \nInternational TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall\, the head of Transgender Michigan\, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could re-focus on celebrating the lives of transgender people\, empowering them to live authentically\, while still acknowledging that due to discrimination\, not every trans person can or wants to be visible. \nResources: \nHawaii Sexual and Gender Minorities Resource Hub \nHHHRC Kua’ana Project \nMalama I Ke Ola Health Center \nTrans Student Educational Resources \nGLSEN Transgender Day of Visibility \nNational Center for Transgender Equality \nTransgender Law Center \nTrans Lifeline

SUMMARY:Bodies. Physique. Mind. Soul. Flesh. Love.
DESCRIPTION:Jhalak Dance Company presents their latest dance performance at Studio 909 on April 20\, 2024 at 7pm. “Bodies. Physique. Mind. Soul. Flesh. Love.” explores temporality\, embodied perception\, and the physical form of presence in the natural and modern world. During the performance engagement the dancers will shine as they explore questions about what it means to be human today and how we see\, feel\, and think about the body. \nHighlighted within the production are several new and powerful dances. “The Past and the Future are in the Present” explores connection\, a sense of place\, and collective experiences through athletic contemporary dance in motion. “Spiral: Journey of the Soul” is a deeply investigative movement play about love\, the energy of flow\, and the language of bodies that touch. The performance embraces the body as a source of wisdom past and present and explores how dance shapes our view of the human form. \nFeatured performers include company members and local artists Sami L.A. Akuna\, Tina Chan\, Cy Higashi\, Lance Sabado\, and Katelyn Wyatt\, as well as the rising stars of the second company JDC 2.0 including Hannah Archer\, Krystian Leialoha Fernandez\, Nani Marcos\, Julian Myrland\, and Ariana Smith. \nLearn more and purchase tickets here.
